The Royal Swedish Cavalry Band is one of three full time bands of the Royal Swedish Armed Forces. The orchestra is part of the Life Guard Regiment, and is stationed in Stockholm. The Cavalry band is a brass band, consisting of 27 brass players and three percussionists.
Performances are very diverse as the band can perform in various constellations, ranging from chamber ensembles all the way up to full brass band. The purpose of the band is to satisfy the Swedish Armed Forces need of music for state ceremonies, celebrations and recruiting.
The Royal Swedish Cavalry Band is the only mounted band in Sweden, and is often associated with the mounted changing of the guards ceremonies at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. The band on horseback also performs at international equestrian events and military displays such as tattoos. In order to meet the demands of the mounted operations, riding is a major order of business all year round.
Once or twice a year the Cavalry Band tours, horses and all, to other cities in Sweden. We are usually met with much appreciation and acclaim.
